Spring / Summer Vacance Travel Kit! - Part 3: Makeup

Published by Jasmine Seo

I promised to write a post on my summer holiday travel kit on my_ bikini post_ about a month ago. And here we are! :) (Apologies for delay! >_<)

If you have visited Australia before (or live in Australia), you would know how hot it is in summer. :(
Especially in Queensland, it gets very hot and humid at the same time.
Accordingly your skin gets very stressed from both the boiling hot weather and air conditioner.

There are all these dark sides behind a sexy hot summer. Bah. :(
Anywho, No Pain No Gain, we love summer, so let's now talk about what to pack for our holidays!

** Check my previous posts Part One: Skin Care and Part Two: Body/Hair Care, if you haven't read them yet!

Part Three: Make-Up

[** I have combination skin, i.e. oily on T-zone and normal or slight dry on the rest. And I get breakouts very easily. Meaning, these products may not work on your skin. ]

This is what I carried with me for _my summer holidays at the Gold Coas_t! I was at the Gold Coast just for a few nights, so I just packed light, as little as possible. So if you want to add more on top of these, that's totally fine as long as it works for you and your travelling schedule! :)

1. Concealer
: A Must-Have!!!!!! You can take a break from foundation or BB/CC/CB creams on holidays (obviously you need these if your are having a business trip! :P)....BUT a concealer!!!! Well, unless you are lucky enough to have a flawless skin! ;) Most of us have not! :( I am pretty sure all these flawless skin people at least have  dark circles! XD Yes, you will need 1-2 concealers depending on your activities/purpose of your trip! You will need highlighting/SPF/oil-free/waterproof/hydrating/long-lasting concealers in different consistency (cream/liquid) with different coverage (light/medium/heavy) for different skin conditions. In my case, I brought an oil-free waterproof concealer for my spots and discoloured areas of my face (creamy consistency for a natural look) and a hydrating light concealer for my under eye areas. Yes, it was all about long-lasting medium/heavy coverage to survive in the sun and sweaty weather! :(

2. Highlighter
: There are so many different types of highlighters on the market, so you need to check what you want beforehand. Otherwise, you might not be able to avoid making mistakes like buying a bunch of different "pretty" highlighters. LOL. A few important things that you should remember is to know what you want ("shimmer" or "glow ") and your skin undertone (yellow, pink..etc). This will help you with choosing the right shade with the right formula so you will not look like you're overly done :). Obviously, if you just want "glow", you can do this in your skin care/priming step using light reflecting/ hydrating products. Obviously highlighting is different since you literally highlight pronounced parts of your face or wherever you want to brings more dimension to your face. In my case, I just used my shimmering eye shadow stick as a highlighter.

3. Eyebrow Mascara/Gel/Pencil
: The shape of eyebrows is very important since it delivers different impressions. Of course, you should not fake your eyebrow shape too over the top. Just follow your natural shape, but enhance it depending on the image that you desire. My case is lucky since i have full eyebrows, so I just need to use eyebrow mascara to set. So go to the makeup counter and see which formula works better on you and easier to use! :)
4. Lip and Cheek Tint/Cream
: Something multi-purpose! One of them is lip and cheek tint/cream/stain...whatever you call it! It brings vibrancy to your lifeless face! You know what I mean :P. We have all experienced this after long nights/days/weekends....tight schedule...etc. Yes, you can carry separate ones, but I just needed my bag to be light, so I just carried a 2 in 1 product! :) The only thing that you should be aware of is that you need to check the formula before you get multi-functional products. Sometimes they are too greasy or too dry.. so look out for something that works on your skin well :).

5. UV (Tinted) Lip Balm/Gloss/Treatment
: It does not have to be a in-built SPF lip treatment.. but it is always better to have it around! You need to protect your delicate lips from harmful UV rays. Once they form wrinkles, it is very hard to get rid of them unless you go for some injections. And it does not mean that they will remove your wrinkles. It will just make your wrinkles less visible. So make sure you apply your favourite lip treatment as often as you can throughout the day :).

6. Oil-Free UV Powder
: An oil-free UV powder comes very handy in the pouch throughout the day in the sun. Especially when you do not want to mess your makeup up! :) You can also use this instead of your loose/finishing powder, so this is a very clever product indeed. What I used during the trip was an SPF 45 translucent one since UV rays in Australia are very strong. There are different SPF ranges on the market, so you can definitely pick what you need depending on the nature of your trip! :) It is worth keeping one of these in your makeup bag, I highly recommend it. :)

7. Eyelash Curler
: Optional! If you naturally have a perfectly curled eyelashes, then you might need this :). But I need this! :P And for those who do not put much makeup including a mascara, you should try curling your eyelashes! It does make your eyes look more bigger and glamourous!  :)

8. Eyeliner
: Again, optional! If you like to keep your natural look, you can skip this! Depending on your preference and your schedule during the trip, you should carefully choose right formula! Waterproof/long-lasting? Pencil/liquid/gel? How about the colour? Black/brown/green...etc.? I carried one black liquid eyeliner and one dark brown pencil eyeliner. In fact, I used the pencil eyeliner as my eye shadow by smudging it with Q-tips, and it worked very well.

9. Mascara
: Eye areas are very sensitive, so you should choose the right formula for your eyelashes and aim of your trip! I have very dry eyes (I have done laser eye vision enhancing treatment about 5 years ago) and I have very think and straight eye lashes. And obviously I needed a waterproof mascara for my trip. I strongly suggest you to test mascaras before you get since not all of them will work perfectly on you! A mascara base is also great under your regular mascara as a treatment/protection/long-lasting hold :).

10. Loose Powder/ Finishing Powder
: If you have some oily issues like I have on my T-zone area, then you might need a powder as a final step to get rid of shine. Or if you need extra coverage with a matte finish, you can also try a loose powder. I personally use a mineral one since my skin is quite reactant to powders...Zzz... Normally, mineral ones are more soothing and tend to be better for sensitive/sensitised skin types.
