I was always curious if Guerlain was ever going to launch a first essence as I personally consider their toners to be very nurturing and hydrating compared to other luxury skincare brands. I thought that it would be very interesting to see Guerlain's interpretation of the first essence as some of you might have already noticed that the company has always been very steadily committed to their skincare development. Yes, Guerlain may seem a little old school and quite unfamiliar to some of you, but trust me, the company has very loyal clientele like my family, and it's one of few companies that rarely disappoints you :).
Orchidée Impériale The Night Revitalizing Essence has the their same old signature Orchidée Impériale scent, which is quite floral and feminine. It's high in parfum and phenoxyethanol, so if your skin has some sensitivity to those, then you will want to get a small sample and do a patch test beforehand.

The night essence is in a bi-phase (oily and watery layers), so you need to shake well every time before using.
It's surprisingly fast-absorbing and feels nurturing.
At first, you can feel that there's a slight oily veil sitting on top of the skin, then it disappears shortly as the essence penetrates the skin. It leaves skin very satiny smooth and supple without any sticky or oily residue.
The Guerlain Night Revitalizing Essence, the first Orchidée Impériale purifying night care designed to optimize the skin’s nocturnal revitalizing process. It acts on two levels - on the surface and within the skin - thanks to the combination of a powerful cell purifier, Purifynol, and Gold Orchid Technology. This precious essence brings together an aqueous phase, with an ultra-high concentration of purifying and anti-ageing ingredients, and an ultra-sensorial oily phase, which perfectly merge thanks to the delicate bead suspended between the two phases. Purified, supple and radiant in the evening, morning after morning skin appears to have regained its original vitality and beauty.

In terms of hydration, it instantly quenches and comforts skin without being heavy or oily. Orchidée Impériale The Night Revitalizing Essence certainly isn't the lightest one on the market, but I would say that it delivers just the right amount of hydration considering the nature of first essence lotions. The finish of the essence is basically in between an emulsion type essence and the dense liquid type.
It's true that Guerlain night essence is the only first essence that comes in bi-phase amongst all other luxury skincare brands, which makes them look more unique and more convincing to be used specifically at night time. Other than the texture, therapeutic sensation upon application and abundance in hydration, I don't see why it can't also be used during the day. The ingredient list doesn't contain particularly PM only/preferred ingredients such as retinol and heavy exfoliants, meaning I personally think that it's fine to use it both day and night.
I've obviously used it during AM and PM and it helped my skin to be more balanced during Spring as my skin tends to get more moody. I take extra care of my skin over my monthly especially in Spring and Autumn since I've noticed that my skin easily gets sensitised and reactive during seasonal changes. If you have combination to normal skin, you can even get away by using the Guerlain essence by itself as a replacement of your regular hydrating serum during warmer seasons. It works as a great make-up base thanks to its lovely satiny finish, and even different types of sunscreens go on smooth without any peeling.
I especially like to pamper my skin after taking a relaxing bath as it soothes and its signature scent gives me that luxurious indulgent sensation :3. Although you could use a cotton pad, I prefer to pour the essence onto my palm and wrap my face, pressing it into skin gently. I like this way because I want to take the most advantage of the texture of the product and most importantly, I want to feel it :). I know, the packaging is very sleek and innovative as it has a magnetic closure and a pearl inside the bottle, which ensures that no air gets in and is very convenient to check if you shake it enough before using. Everyone in my family loves the essence including my grandmother and myself and it's great for all seasons. I highly recommend you to try it out as long as your skin isn't overly sensitive and oily :).
