Natural Balance Review > Vegetarian Formula Dog Food (Protein allergies/ Weight management)

Published by Jasmine Seo

I have started to incorporate Natural Balance Vegetarian Dog Food into our border collie Yuna's diet from January this year. She had developed a skin allergy to certain proteins, so she has been on a limited protein diet (ie. sweet potato and rabbit meat) with Royal Canin Canine Selected Protein Adult PR Dry Food along with Natural Balance Vegetarian Dog Food.

Natural Balance vegetarian food isn't that smelly as it doesn't contain any animal-based ingredients, but I've found that the food feels a little bit drier and lighter than other dry dog foods. The size of the kibble is pretty standard and relatively thin, but I've noticed that Yuna needs to chew more when eating. Meaning, if your dog eats very fast without chewing, then you might want to get a special bowl along with the food just to slow down eating, which is what we've been doing with Yuna's baby sister, Yena :).

Usage

Although our Yuna has been getting the Royal Canin one as her main meals, I've been mixing it with Natural Balance vegan food in a 1:1 ratio for the past a month or so as I have been giving Yuna a double her normal amount of food to prevent her weight loss and protein overload.

I've also put Yena on the vegetarian food recently, partially just for the weight management as she tends to put on weight far more easily than Yuna. And the result has been great as she's in a much healthier border collier shape now. The beer belly is gone! XD (joke)

It has been very difficult to find proper vegetarian dog treats to meet my standards, so I've been using the food as a go to treat. It has been working very well without giving any bad stomach reactions. I have to admit that Natural Balance Vegetarian Dog Food isn't the most affordable food that you can find, but still it's much cheaper than the Royal Canin one :P. Anyways, it's a great food to complement the Royal Canin diet and my man and I are getting very excited as we have started to seeing some improvements in her affected skin area :). I highly recommend it as a complementary food to a limited diet whether it's for allergies and/or weight management!
