I normally raid ramen places when I travel because it's one of my favourite meals, this time in San Francisco I stopped at Ramen Underground, a small restaurant on Kearny Street.
I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen with Plum Wine.
Right off the bat it wasn't going well as I got beer instead of the plum wine I ordered, it wasn't a big deal as I got it switched out without any problem though. I noticed the countertop was kind of sticky also.
When I got the right drink I started to dig in, the broth was very tasty. The noodles seemed more on the cheap side to me though, closer to freeze dried than homemade. I might be wrong of course but I've certainly had better.
The pork wasn't anything to write home about, normally it's the best part of tonkotsu ramen but I preferred the broth.
The plum wine was interesting, it had rhubarb in it or something which gave it a different taste to what I normally have.
Overall it dinner was fine... Just fine. Last time I was here I went to Ajisen Ramen in the Westfield a few blocks south and much preferred that, it was probably worth the walk.
