Sisley vs La Mer Review > SISLEY Super Soin Solaire Youth Protector SPF 50 & LA MER The SPF 50 UV Protecting Fluid (Blanc de La Mer)

Published by Jasmine Seo

This year, major cosmetic companies have been busy launching their upgraded SPF products including Dior, Chanel and La Prairie. And here we are with two newly upgraded luxury suncare products by Sisley and La Mer.

Sisley Super Soin Solaire Youth Protector SPF 50+ & Blanc de La Mer The SPF 50 UV Protecting Fluid

Scent

There's certainly a chemical sunscreen scent kicking through both Sisley Super Soin Solaire Youth Protector SPF 50+ and Blanc de La Mer The SPF 50 UV Protecting Fluid by La Mer. This is expected from any SPF products on the market, but I love the way those companies made their suncare very unique even with the scent. The scent is very La Mer and Sisley that I can even tell those suncare with my eyes closed, which is quite amazing.

There's a fresh and unusual scent to Blanc de La Mer The SPF 50 UV Protecting Fluid, and personally it smells more like the mixture of their popular Regenerating Serum and chemical sunscreen. As for Sisley Super Soin Solaire Youth Protector SPF 50+, it smells a bit aromatic, but not necessarily an essential oil scent. It does smell quite botanical like how all of their skin care products do, and the chemical sunscreen smell doesn't really overpower.

Neither of those scents irritated my skin or my man's sensitive skin, and there has been no complaints from my picky man who's very sensitive to smell :P. That's good news! However, if you are one of those people who's very sensitive about the smell, then you might want to test beforehand. Just in case if you are not a fan of Sisley's botanical scent, or even La Mer's unique scent :3.

Texture

Application

It may not sound very surprising for how much we pay for those sunscreens, but both Sisley Super Soin Solaire Youth Protector SPF 50+ and Blanc de La Mer The SPF 50 UV Protecting Fluid shows superb penetration into the skin. They spreads very easily and beautifully without leaving any whitecast or strokes.

The only difference between Sisley Super Soin Solaire Youth Protector SPF 50+ and Blanc de La Mer The SPF 50 UV Protecting Fluid is that, once again, they are being very Sisley-like and La Mer-ish. The Sisley one has its lightweight creamy texture that is very absorbs fast into skin, which is found very common in Sisley skin care. Blanc de La Mer The SPF 50 UV Protecting Fluid by La Mer also seems to have its unique bouncy texture from their serums. It feels more like an dense emulsion, but there's definitely a slightly bouncy gel feel to it. Some might not notice it, but I have as I use lots of different products XD.

Finish

The interesting part is that you can even find Sisley-ness and La Mer-ness once you put them on. Sisley Super Soin Solaire Youth Protector SPF 50+ and Blanc de La Mer The SPF 50 UV Protecting Fluid has a sheer glowy finish without any skin tone evening. Although Blanc de La Mer The SPF 50 UV Protecting Fluid is light green coloured, it doesn't really do anything. It also has more of dense feeling on the skin, similar to how their products tend to be usually.

Although Sisley Super Soin Solaire Youth Protector SPF 50+ goes on like a creamy emulsion, it gives a very neat finish with deep hydration and glow. It's just like how most Sisley skin care products provide deep long lasting hydration without making skin look very oily. Personally, I feel that there's almost a slight firming sensation once putting the suncare on although it has nothing to do with firming or tightening, which feels quite fun.

Effectiveness

Hydration

Sisley Super Soin Solaire Youth Protector SPF 50+ & Blanc de La Mer The SPF 50 UV Protecting Fluid

Let me tell you, you can skip your regular moisturiser when you use either Sisley Super Soin Solaire Youth Protector SPF 50+ or Blanc de La Mer The SPF 50 UV Protecting Fluid unless you have very dry or dehydrated skin. If you have combination/normal skin type, you can even skip your regular serum and moisturiser especially this time of year when it's boiling hot outside. I've noticed that both of the sunscreens doesn't dry skin out throughout the day and they provide pretty much consistent long-lasting hydration even if you apply only once a day. However, you're supposed to re-apply throughout the day, so you won't need to worry about dehydration or dryness.

Sun Protection

My man and I've noticed that our skin didn't feel dry and hurt when we were doing activities in the sun during peak hours of the day. I guess it's all thanks to their skin comforting formula along with smart sun protection. We haven't got any sunburn this summer, and hardly any tan either :O. I normally get dry lines here and there in summer from dehydration, but I haven't got one yet either. It's pretty amazing.

Re-application

I'm not sure about you, but I've noticed quite a lot of sunscreens make re-application very hard :/. It either makes skin look more ghostly or even peels everything off underneath. At least, with Sisley Super Soin Solaire Youth Protector SPF 50+ and Blanc de La Mer The SPF 50 UV Protecting Fluid, you can put these concerns aside, which is a relief :). The only thing that you need to be careful about is sebum control. If your skin tends to get quite oily, even just around the T-zone area, then I highly recommend you to tissue or blot off some oil around the area first before re-applying.

Regardless, they have been working great on my dehydrated skin, but there were a few times that annoyed my man a little :P. He sweats very easily and his body gets hot very quick in warmer seasons. Being chemical sunscreens, Sisley Super Soin Solaire Youth Protector SPF 50+ and Blanc de La Mer The SPF 50 UV Protecting Fluid make it hard for my man to re-apply. If you don't properly cool down your skin a bit and wipe off all the sweat, then they make your skin feel rather sticky and heavy.

Verdict

Overall, Sisley Super Soin Solaire Youth Protector SPF 50+ and Blanc de La Mer The SPF 50 UV Protecting Fluid work brilliantly. However, if you are someone who likes to use the same sunscreen around the eye area as well, then you need to be very careful. They don't irritate the eye area, but I've noticed that they travel down all over the face throughout the day. Meaning, your eyes might feel it or you might even taste some sunscreen, which can be quite annoying to some. And hey, consuming chemical sunscreen is bad too :P. So I don't recommend you use those around the eye and lip area, but rather use either Sisley Sun Stick (full review) or Amore Pacifc Sun Stick (full review) instead for those delicate areas.

Sisley Sun Stick & Amore Pacifc Sun Stick

Definitely, Sisley Super Soin Solaire Youth Protector SPF 50+ and Blanc de La Mer The SPF 50 UV Protecting Fluid will be great for the upcoming autumn and winter considering their hydration, but some people might prefer to stay away from these sunscreens due to the texture, especially in summer as it might get a bit sticky and oily throughout the day. And they are chemical sunscreens, so I highly recommend you try them out beforehand or make sure that your skin's fine with them.
