My skin isn’t that sensitive to fragrance, but my nose and head are XD. For this reason mainly, I try out a deluxe sample before I get the full size product, especially with face oils. Indeed, the weather is still quite dry and a bit cold inside and outside our place, so I’ve been relying more heavily on balms and oils than usual. I’ve been using kō Denmark Rosehip & Evening Primrose Face Serum since autumn last year, and have been very enjoying it! A tiny amount goes long way, so you just need a little bit.
This is the very first time I'm trying out the Goldfaden MD product, so I wasn’t sure what I was supposed to expect from the oil. I got this travel size sample from SpaceNK when I was getting other things. Regardless, I have a pretty good impression of dermatologist brands in general, so I just put the oil straight on my face rather than doing any patch testing on my wrist.
Oh, have I told you that I picked possibly the most ridiculous time to have an adventure with Goldfaden MD Fleuressence Native Botanical Cell Oil? XD I actually tried it out on Day 3 after my VI Peel (full review). Haha I know, I’ve tried different EGF serums after chemical peels, but not an actual oil. Be careful though, it can really sensitise your skin so don’t try it unless you know that your skin can handle it. My skin was doing pretty well then, so I decided to test it.
Anyways, it was a very crazy idea, but let me tell you, it was worth it! I’m not saying it was worth testing it on post chemical peel skin, but I was glad that I tried it out :).
Scent
As for Goldfaden MD Fleuressence Native Botanical Cell Oil, I didn’t even notice much at all while dabbing the oil on my face. The smell is very natural and weak, not essential oil-y, actually quite similar to kō Denmark Rosehip & Evening Primrose Face Serum but weaker. I actually liked it better than Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate because I typically got a headache from the essential oil scent while using the Kiehl’s one.
Consistency & Texture
If you have tried Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate and you loved it, then you will love Goldfaden MD Fleuressence Native Botanical Cell Oil and kō Denmark Rosehip & Evening Primrose Face Serum! All of them are runny, light and absorb fast for an oil concentrate. Personally on my skin, I felt that the Goldfaden MD one actually absorbs much quicker than Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate and kō Denmark Rosehip & Evening Primrose Face Serum. It also leaves a much lighter finish than those two, and possibly it might be the lightest oil that I’ve ever tried in my life O_O. I also felt that it instantly penetrates into my skin similar to kō Denmark Rosehip & Evening Primrose Face Serum, but much faster. You can definitely feel some oil residue from all these oils after putting them on, but I would say that Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate creates a thin veil on top rather than just an oil residue.
Tips & Usage
If you want to know more about how to use face oils in detail, you can check from my previous post. Due to the different finish and consistency, here are some of my suggestions when you use either Goldfaden MD Fleuressence Native Botanical Cell Oil, kō Denmark Rosehip & Evening Primrose Face Serum or Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate. By the way, personally I wouldn’t recommend any of them for doing facial massage unless you use a lot of product, or mix in with massage cream.
Goldfaden MD Fleuressence Native Botanical Cell Oil
Great for all seasons! Considering its penetration power, I would say you can just replace your serum with this. If you have to put on extra serum though, then I suggest you layer underneath Goldfaden MD Fleuressence Native Botanical Cell Oil. Because it’s very light, it’s best to use a lightweight fast absorbing serum. I can see people with oily/combo types can even enjoy it by itself. Oh, and one more, don’t try mixing it with regular creamy / balmy textured creams. It penetrates into skin much faster than creams, so it will get absorbed into skin first even before mixing it fully. If you really want to mix it with something, then I suggest you to mix with emulsion type serums or light gel cream types.
kō Denmark Rosehip & Evening Primrose Face Serum
Although the consistency of kō Denmark Rosehip & Evening Primrose Face Serum is pretty light, it still feels more on the comforting and rich side once it has penetrated into your skin. So I would say it’s more suitable for normal to dry/dehydrated skin types. You can layer lightweight serums underneath, or you can just layer kō Denmark Rosehip & Evening Primrose Face Serum a few times after about 1-2 minute intervals. Alternatively, you can also mix in with your favourite cream and/or hydrating mask! I personally like to use with Atopalm Intensive Moisturizing Cream, and it works beautifully. I’m not sure if I would suggest it for use during summer, but indeed it’s a great oil serum for dry skin types during warmer seasons. For other skin types, I recommend to use it during colder seasons.
Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate
As I said earlier, it leaves a slight veil on your skin, so I suggest you mix it with your regular textured cream (not melting balm types) if you need to use a cream. It’s just to be safe for your layers of skin care products not to come off. Otherwise you can replace your night time moisturiser to Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate. If you layer serum(s) normally, then I suggest you try not to put on any type of serum that create slight films (eg. thick gel consistency) on your skin underneath the oil.
Effectiveness
They all give a great regenerating boost and instant hydration honestly. However, I would like to recommend Goldfaden MD Fleuressence Native Botanical Cell Oil for boosting the efficacy of any age prevention skin care products that you currently use, kō Denmark Rosehip & Evening Primrose Face Serum for soothing and nourishing skin for longer hydration and lastly Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate for inducing better nighttime overall complexion renewal.
