La Mer Review > The Lip Balm (Tips/ Lip make-up base/ Ft. Vaseline Lip Therapy Original)

Published by Jasmine Seo

I've been always very much more into lip care products, not necessarily lip make-up products since my adolescence. I have gone through quite a lot of high-end to high street lip care products, and I thought I would share La Mer The Lip Balm that I've been using for many years. To be honest, I don't really mind using any lip balms as long as one doesn't irritate my sensitive lips regardless of price tags since even some of the 100% pure natural organic ones have quite often given my lips very uncomfortable itchiness. Nevertheless, La Mer The Lip Balm has never caused any cold sores to my dehydrated sensitive lip, which is a worthwhile investment for kissable (Ha! :P) lips ;).

Scent

When I first purchased the lip balm years ago, I was a little skeptical as La Mer The Lip Blam contains a fragrance, although it's still listed lower part of the ingredient list. However, it turned out that the fragrance never irritated and lingered on my lips long, rather it gave a pleasant fresh slightly minty smell. You won't have any problem tasting a weird flavour when you drink or eat, so it won't interrupt your daily routine.

Consistency

Just like its name, it's in a balm texture that melts into skin. It goes on very smooth and fine without any chalky feel. It does feel luxurious, but not as creamy or gliding like my other go-to lip care product La Prairie Anti-Aging Eye and Lip Perfection À Porter. At least you won't need to worry about La Mer The Lip Balm melting crazy in the airplane or in Summer due to its mostly sold consistency.

Benefits

This velveteen balm with a hint of mint calms, restores and conditions, transforming lips with the most tender touch. Instantly helping to soften dryness, this emollient treatment nourishes, restores and strengthens the natural moisture barrier to help prevent further environmental damage.

Effectiveness / Tips

La Mer The Lip Balm is also buildable, so if you are in need of more intense moisturisation, then you could layer a few times more on your lips. This is how I normally use it during colder seasons or at night as my lips tend to get dry very easily. Or if you think that it's a bit of a waste, then alternatively you could layer Vaseline Lip Therapy (Original) instead.

La Mer The Lip Balm won't make your lips glossy or even look like Angelina Jolie's plumped look, but it will still give your lips a naturally youthful appearance and provide a good lip make-up base. As I mentioned briefly before, you can basically customise the moisturisation level that you want, so just a few dabs on lips will do fine for lip make-up. Having said that, using the lip balm on top of existing lip make-up doesn't work very well, so I would avoid doing that.

In terms of anti-aging benefits, I've noticed that La Mer The Lip Balm keeps my lips smooth and soft, so it seems to help with skin renewal around the area to a certain extent. I wouldn't say that it will get rid of the existing wrinkles on your lips, but it will help preventing them from getting worsening and future ones. Regardless, La Mer The Lip Balm is a great classic one to use day and night for both men and women, but I still think that it would be nicer if the company would one day bring out the lip balm in a portable lip stick case too so I won't need to wash my hands every time before applying onto my lips when I'm outside. Oh, have I also mentioned that it works great for cuticles? :3
