La Mer Review > The Soft Fluid Long Wear Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 20 (Swatches/ Shade 220 Neutral & 250 Sand)

Published by Jasmine Seo

La Mer The Soft Fluid Long Wear Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 20 carries La Mer's signature soothing scent, but I've noticed that there's some kind of fermented sake-like slight hue initially. The scent is very subtle, and it doesn't linger on skin after application, so I imagine that most of people won't mind. I personally prefer the La Mer one over other overwhelmingly artificial or strong essential oil scents from other brands as I have a very sharp nose that I tend to get nausea from it.

Swatches (220 Neutral & 250 Sand)

  • 220 Neutral - Light Skin with Neutral Undertone
  • 250 Sand - Light Skin with Warm Undertone

I would say that both of those shades are pink based, but I found that shade 220 Neutral is a lot more pink-ish than the shade 250 Sand.

Benefits

Verdict

La Mer The Soft Fluid Long Wear Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 20 has a very pleasant lightweight creamy emulsion-like consistency, which feels very luxurious on skin. I'm personally not a huge fan of foundation, but I have been thoroughly enjoying using La Mer foundation this year as it doesn't carry much unwanted greasiness or stickiness in its texture.

The formulation is superb that it spreads very easily and smooth so you only need a tiny amount if you just want a hint of even colour to skin. It's also easy to build, so I haven't been using much concealer even for my under eye area. I would just dab some of the foundation in the area that needs more coverage, and I would leave it for a minute or so before gently blend.

I didn't get any irritation in my skin even during my cycle, so La Mer The Soft Fluid Long Wear Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 20 has become my pick-me-up foundation when I feel sick and my skin looks dull. It gives such a natural dewy glow that does seem to leave up to its name 'soft'. I'm very well aware that some foundations can make you look and feel older, but La Mer foundation rather enhances the look of skin by making it look more healthy looking.

Even better, the foundation lasts well through humidity and high temperature that it was my saviour during my recent summer holidays. I've only noticed slight sebum around my nose 4 hours after the initial foundation application, so I didn't need much touch-up throughout the day.

I normally wear La Prairie Skin Caviar Concealer Foundation in shade Warm Beige, and my skin is somewhere in between the shade 30 (autumn/winter) and 40 (summer/tanned skin) for Chanel foundations. My skin has yellow undertone, and I found that shade 250 Sand for La Mer The Soft Fluid Long Wear Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 20 works perfect for me without making my skin look too pink or too yellow.
