Amongst all other western uber luxury skincare brands, La Mer has already been very much invested in developing different types of first essence lotions for many years. It may be most likely that the brand has been influenced by the Asian beauty market, which the company may have been able to foresee layering skincare trend introduced by the East.
Nevertheless, it's indeed great news for those with young skin or just good skin in general as you normally get a larger amount at a lesser price for those boosting essence lotions. And if you have normal to oily skin, you could get away just by using one of those boosting lotions. I personally find it very convenient during Summer holidays and when my cycle's near since I don't like to spend so much time in front of the mirror. As you might have already guessed, you could use it as a all-in-one treatment (toner/essence/moisturiser) or simply just underneath your moisturiser. I would still recommend using a toner though unless your skin feels pretty much normal and not have any sensitivity including breakouts.
