It has been almost 10 years since my family has begun investing a huge portion of money (from my personal perspective :3) into La Prairie Cellular Platinum Rare collection. My grandmother and my mum started using Cellular Cream Platinum Rare for day and night since the launch, and you can imagine I was sort of privileged to experience those high tech products from an early age. La Prairie skincare was already in my life even before then, so I was simply ecstatic about the launch. Oh, before starting to review, based on my years of experience with Cellular Cream Platinum Rare, those with young skin don't need to use it unless you really like to indulge yourself. I'm telling you this based on my observations so far in my family's skin including my own as it really didn't do much for my young skin including hormonal breakouts or pigmentation. So it cannot replace in-office treatments and it isn't even comparable like all other over-the-counter products. Nevertheless, I can confidently say that Cellular Cream Platinum Rare is still the most beautifying, luxurious, perfecting and interesting cream on the market.
Scent & Consistency
Cellular Cream Platinum Rare has a very subtle soothing luxurious scent, no overpowering herbal or even floral scent. The texture even feels very luxurious on skin. Yes, it starts with luxury and ends with luxury! :3 (joke)
The cream feels more like a thickened whipped cream, but it doesn't feel that thick at all once it's all set. I wouldn't say it doesn't feel that light on skin as it forms a delicate film on top of skin, which is why I wouldn't recommend it for oily/problem-prone/oily combination skin.
Cellular Cream Platinum Rare spreads and glides onto skin very easily so you don't really need much at all. It instantly brightens, beautifies and brings most desirable just-got-out-of-spa impeccable glow to skin without even going for facials. It's also reflective, so it takes away attention from any imperfections on skin without even camouflaging any. Be aware, the cream is very addictive!
Climate activated moisture matrix: enhances moisture function
- tri-dimensional moisture matrix reacts to humidity and temperature levels
- natural bio-saccharide builds water-retaining film giving a renewed feeling of moisture on the skin’s surface, after about 3 hours
Double Action Wrinkle Control
- soften expression lines; keeps skin flexible
- help rebuild underlying structure of skin
- platinum peptide complex: platinum particles bonded to acetyl tetrapeptide-17, protect the peptide from destructive enzymes in the skin, allowing superior anti-wrinkle activity and firming
- resveratrol neutralizes free radicals
Despite all the beauty it provides, the one thing that you should remember though, you need to apply it in the right way. Always try to work it using swift outwards motion using both of your hands, and try not to retrace it or use rolling motions. This means that it's best not to try to give yourself a mini facial massage. And also try not to layer many products underneath. This includes Cellular Cream Platinum Rare by itself too due to its unique finish. I'm telling you all this because the very expensive cream can be rubbed off and leave weird streaks all over your face. When it happens, it looks very weird as you will look like an uneven disco ball. And the worst thing that could happen is that it can actually makes your pores a bit accentuated if you have enlarged pores and put the cream too much.
It's not the end, you also need to be very careful what kind of texture of your sunscreen/ make-up products that you follow with. I strongly go against putting on a mattifying or oily products as again, it can peel off all the goodness. You should be careful because of its unique formula that creates a very fine veil on top of the skin. I know, it's good that it provides smart hydration to skin, but simultaneously we just need to be a bit more aware of the formulation.
If you don't bother remembering any of those, then I suggest you try out one of their Cellular Radiance Night Cream, Skin Caviar Moisturisers or Cellular Time Release Moisturiser Intensive as an alternative. They are almost equally hydrating and also gives that youthful glow, just less light-reflective, which may be better for those with enlarged pores as they won't pronounce them.
To be honest, my family hasn't seen that much of lifting or firming actions, but it helps somewhat with plumping if you incorporate it into a hydrating skincare regime. All I can say is that it's a pure luxury. Having said that, it still works if you start early and use it religously, which may not be surprising to some of you as well-hydrated skin is a key to beautiful skin aging. Because it's very expensive, and I'm very well aware of the fact that it doesn't justify the ridiculous price that consumers need to pay, I'm not going to say that it's the best moisturiser amongst all La Prairie products only judging by the effectiveness. However, it works as I can tell from looking at my grandmother and my mum's skin. My sister even used the cream mainly at night during her two pregnancies, and her skin hasn't aged dramatically at all unlike some mum-to-be's out there. Regardless, I would only recommend it for those who can afford it in the long run, looks for mainly maintenance/ prevention and enjoys make-up free days. Yes, one cannot deny that La Prairie Cellular Cream Platinum Rare is very self-indulgent! >_<
