Chanel's product expansion on their classic Hydra Beauty line continues, and they have been launching at least one product every year over the past few years. I cannot deny the fact that their Hydra Beauty products are well-praised, and I personally found them effective in delivering results. If you love their Hydra Beauty Micro Serum and Micro Creme, you will love the leave-on overnight mask that I'm reviewing today, Hydra Beauty Masque de Nuit au Camélia. As most of us may not be familiar with French, I will just call it Camelia overnight mask instead throughout this post😊.
Scent
Although Camelia overnight mask still contains their signature peachy floral artificial fragrance, it doesn't come as strong as some other Hydra Beauty products. The content of fragrance is still relatively high, so I wouldn't recommend if your skin is sensitive to it. I personally didn't get bothered much, but I was quite surprised that the scent isn't as strong than their usual formulation.
Consistency
Before even trying the mask, I kind of assumed that the texture of Camelia overnight mask would be lighter than their traditional [Hydra Beauty Hydration Protection Radiance Mask] which is a dense cream mask. I could guess this as the company also launched Le Lift Skin Recovery Sleep Mask not long ago, and it's also in a far lighter textured than their regular creamy Le Lift Recontouring Massage Mask.
I personally appreciate the fact that the company is giving more choices to people with preference of lighter textured products as they are more convenient in warmer seasons from my experience. Nevertheless, Camellia overnight mask is in a gel cream consistency that glides onto skin very smoothly. The way it goes onto skin is pretty sensational that doesn't feel very cheap at all and I find the consistency quite rare in the current beauty market, not being too sticky or having any weight.
Once you start massaging in, there's a water burst sensation, which almost made me to think whether I was actually putting a diluted version of their Micro Creme. It feels very hydrating and fresh, but not neat or matte.
After the phase, there's another transition to an oil-infused glowy finish. It creates such a nice canvas to give a mini facial massage, which I didn't expect at all from its lightweight consistency. It does have a bit of an oily and shiny finish although it really depends on the amount that you use. It spreads very well, so I suggest you to use sparingly if you have combination skin.

Verdict
Oh-la-la, what a surprise! Chanel has indeed decided to claim the title as 'a luxury oil-infused skincare master', and I can see that they have really been pushing hard to re-position themselves in high-tech skincare competition with other brands based on my observation. As a consumer and an observer, I like the idea as it will reinforce positive competition in the high-end beauty industry.

In terms of hydration, I don't think that the Camelia overnight mask is better than their Hydra Beauty Micro Serum mainly due to its degree of skin penetration. This means that you may still need to use their Hydra Beauty Micro Serum before the mask application for deep hydration benefits. And I noticed that using those two together greatly extends the longevity of hydration, even though the Camelia overnight mask already provides long-lasting moisturisation. If you live in a warmer climate, then the mask alone may be fine, but for those with very dry skin will need an extra boost as the mask won't do its work by itself. You could use Camelia overnight mask after using their original Hydra Beauty Hydration Protection Radiance Mask if your skin really needs some S.O.S hydration such as after a long-haul flight.
For those with oily skin though, you probably won't want to leave the mask on overnight as it has a slight oily finish already. It isn't that uncomfortably sticky, but I suggest you to pat the residue off with a facial tissue after 20 minutes. If that's still a bit too much due to your very oily skin, then you could splash some cool water on after 20 minutes, then gently pat dry with a towel and follow with a moisturiser or serum if necessary.

Although it says it's an overnight mask, I've been using it during the day time too as a replacement of my regular hydrating cream. The mask has been working well and I think that it has been doing an excellent job putting my skin back to its optimal condition from dryness and dehydration imbalance caused by seasonal changes. It's also a great glow make-up base, and my concealer and foundation all glides on beautifully. It has nothing to do with make-up longevity, so you will need to re-touch your make-up throughout the day if you decide to use it during the daytime.
I've been also applying the mask directly on my lips quite thickly at night instead of my lip balm, and I've been seeing improvement on my chapped lips without causing sensitivity. It's actually a great lipstick base too without being too heavy. I would consider Chanel Hydra Beauty Masque de Nuit au Camélia leave-on overnight mask one of the more pleasant hydrating masks that you could use especially in warmer seasons without having alcohol feel to skin. Skin feels soft and smooth to touch upon wake-up, and it's a great one to use with a Guasha massage tool for enhanced blood circulation and oxygenating effects.
