Chanel Review > Hydra Beauty Camellia Repair Mask (Multi-Use Hydrating Comforting Mask)

Published by Jasmine Seo

I've been using Chanel Hydra Beauty Camellia Repair Mask a lot since last Summer when it launched, as I've been spending a lot more time in my yard with my dogs. I should mention that those who are sensitive to artificial scents may find the mask quite off-putting, because it smells of a typical Hydra Beauty scent, but a bit stronger.

Scent & Consistency

Upon initial application, there's a dominant smell kicking through their signature Hydra Beauty's floral scent. Fortunately, it doesn't linger on skin afterwards, but I did get a bit nauseous when I first tried it. Meaning, it's something that you might want to avoid using if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Having said that, I haven't had any skin irritation from it, and I've been quite enjoying using the mask frankly. It has a soft bouncy creamy consistency, which feels like some kind of thickened hair mousse.

There's a pleasant cooling sensation upon contact with skin, then the thick soft cream almost melts into skin while massaging in. It doesn't turn into oil, rather, it carries a bit of a balmy texture.

The mask is buildable, so you can begin with a small amount to cover your face depending on the intensity and the level of hydration that you want. It spreads readily and it doesn't leave any heavy and tacky feel to skin, which is something I really love about it. There is none of that "masky veil" that I really don't like, and you can feel that your skin is still breathing.

Benefits

An ultra-rich, ultra-creamy face mask that helps skin maintain optimal moisture levels and delivers an instant plumping effect. Upon application, skin feels nourished, supple and hydrated and appears more even and radiant.

Key ingredients

A combination of White Camellia Wax, Hyaluronic Acid and Glycerin locks in moisture, while Panthenol helps soothe and antioxidant Blue Ginger PFA* provides powerful antioxidant benefits.

*PFA: PolyFractioned Active. An ultra-pure, ultra-powerful ingredient created through exclusive patented CHANEL technology.

How to apply

For a burst of radiance, apply a generous layer onto face, leave on for 10 minutes, then rinse with warm water. For intense comfort, apply a thin layer to face, massage thoroughly into skin, then leave on overnight. To soothe dryness, massage a small amount onto targeted areas of face.

Verdict

I personally find Chanel Hydra Beauty Camellia Repair Mask very versatile, and I have been trying to get the most out of its versatility😎.  It especially came in very handy during seasonal transitions and Summer when my skin tends to be easily sensitised by external aggressors. I've been sort of alternating between using it as a leave-on overnight mask and as a 10 minute wash off intense treatment in the shower.

I've also been mixing a couple of drops of face oil to the mask to give my face a short massage at night. I personally think all these rituals helped my skin to keep the hydration balance level a lot this year, which may not come as a big surprise as I give a huge amount of TLC to my skin. Regardless, I cannot deny the fact that Chanel Hydra Beauty Camellia Repair Mask contributed a significant amount 😉.

My skin has been pretty much normal and balanced, and I didn't get any sensitivity over the hot Summer, considering the immense amount of Sun that I was exposed to from gardening and taking dogs out to off-leash dog parks. I wouldn't say that the mask charges skin with hydration to the degree that it makes you look like an oil sleek. Rather, it almost feels like a skin hydration supplement that fills the gap depending on different hydration level that your skin needs.

If you want to take Chanel Hydra Beauty Camellia Repair Mask to the next level, I suggest you to pair it with one of their serums and/or a couple of drops of face oil if your skin is very dry and/or is exposed to frequent temperature and humidity fluctuations. Thanks to its versatility, I also recommend it to frequent flyers as it's very compact and will basically do everything even as a hydrating make-up base.
