La Prairie Review > White Caviar Crème Extraordinaire (Brightening & firming/ Ft. NuFace Trinity Facial Toning Device)

La Prairie White Caviar Crème Extraordinaire smells quite different from their existing White Caviar range. I would say that it smells more floral and an artificial powdery scent kicks out more through the scent. It has a more mature scent, so some may not like it as it isn't a rose or citrus type. I personally find it quite awakening, rather than soothing or calming when I apply the cream. The cream certainly isn't for those with fragrance sensitivity although it didn't cause any breakouts on my skin.

Consistency

If you have been following my website, you all know that the main reason why I didn't like their discontinued original White Caviar Illuminating cream was due to its bizarre texture. And guess what! La Prairie has developed such a beautiful consistency for White Caviar Crème Extraordinaire, which goes on like whipped cream without an overly heavy finish or density to the cream.

I'm not saying that it's airy light, but there's a soft bounciness in the cream without being in a gel texture. It definitely feels way more pleasant to skin over their original White Caviar cream. The consistency has gotten more soft and smooth. There has also been no peel off or masky feel to skin, which is another bonus.

White Caviar Crème Extraordinaire absorbs fast into skin, leaving skin subtly glowy without any oily or sticky residue.

Benefits

White Caviar Crème Extraordinaire is a lavish cream infused with Lumidose, the extraordinary molecule of light. It helps skin reach new levels of luminosity and evenness — measurable in two weeks, visible in four, extraordinary in eight.

Recapture the luminosity of younger-looking, healthy skin with the White Caviar ritual. After cleansing, begin with White Caviar Clarifying Lotion, then follow with White Caviar Illuminating Eye Serum, White Caviar Illuminating Pearl Infusion, White Caviar Illuminating Eye Cream and finish with White Caviar Crème Extraordinaire.

  • Contributes to a marked reduction in the visibility and intensity of age spots, lightening their appearance.
  • Improves the appearance of dull, discoloured skin, visibly stamping out unevenness to leave the complexion illuminated.
  • Leaves skin feeling firmer and refines its texture. Skin feels smoother, its elasticity and moisture levels are improved.

Science

Following years of research that included screening 50,000 ingredients to find the single most powerful brightening active, Lumidose was identified by the scientists at La Prairie. Exclusive to White Caviar Crème Extraordinaire, this patented molecule is the most effective in supporting the inhibition of melanin production. Dark spots seem to fade, as if banished by a powerful ray of light.

Application

Apply AM/ PM after cleansing, toning and serum application. Release the perfect dose from the airless pump. Using fingertips, smooth gently over entire face, avoiding eye area. Allow to absorb completely.

Verdict

I genuinely love the overall texture and the finish that La Prairie White Caviar Crème Extraordinaire offers, and I certainly prefer it to the original White Caviar cream as it feels more pleasant to skin and it's very much appliable without worrying about peel off or the amount that I have to use each time. The consistency is workable so it goes well with other formulations from different brands. You can even make your own tinted moisturiser by adding a pump of liquid or cream foundation to the cream depending on your personal preference.

The cream by itself isn't that oily or heavy, so it has worked well for this Summer when the weather was very hot. I've also used it during my cycle and it didn't aggravate my skin, and I've noticed that it takes redness down pretty quickly overnight on those freshly popped hormonal pimple scars. The cream also healed the area fast and prevented my skin from getting discolouration, which I loved the most about it.

Having said that, the cream isn't hydrating or moisturising enough for those with dry skin, so you will need some extra support such as with a face oil and serum. It's certainly sufficient for hot and humid climate, but adding a drop or two of face oil boosts the longevity of moisturisation, which will be more recommended for dry skin.

In terms of brightening, I haven't seen a noticeable reduction in my existing freckles, but it seemed to work fine for me as I didn't get any uneven tan and my sunspots didn't seem to get darkened. I truly believe that religious sunscreen re-application (every 2-3 hours) helped the efficacy of the cream a lot to inhibit and control melanin production in my skin, considering the fact that I did lots of gardening outside.

I would say that firming benefits are more easily achieveable as my skin has gotten visibly firmer, and my cheeks and jawline seem more toned and somewhat lifted. I've been also using Nuface Trinity Facial Toning Device and La Prairie White Caviar Illuminating Pearl Infusion for better boosted results before the cream application, so it's clear that they have worked in synergy.

La Prairie White Caviar Crème Extraordinaire isn't a sunspot eraser in a pot, so it won't replace prescribed retinol products and in-office treatments. However, I still regard it to be the best cream on the market by far that tackles both spot prevention and firming. The cream will work very well as a preventative/maintenance measure as long as you apply sunscreen diligently and have a healthy lifestyle.
