Tatcha Review > Radiant Deep Brightening Serum (Tips & Warnings)

Published by Jasmine Seo

To be honest, I tried Tatcha Radiant Deep Brightening Serum without expecting much as I've mostly found that 'brightening / lightening' formulas doesn't turn out as effective as they should be. However, Tatcha Radiant Deep Brightening Serum was pretty good.

Texture & Scent

The consistency of Tatcha Radiant Deep Brightening Serum is very close to Radical Skincare Multi Brightening Serum; a runny, light and emulsion-like.

It spreads very well such that you only need 2 pumps to cover your entire face and neck. There's no sticky or oily feeling upon touching the skin. I would call the finish of it neat, not matte.

Scent-wise, there's no noticeable distintive smell. It's neither good or bad, and I didn't get any headache from the scent :P. Having said that, I wouldn't recommend you to even dare to dab it around eye area though! My eyes got watery from the scent :/. Well, it isn't meant to be used for the eye area anyways, so don't be silly like how I tried XD.

Benefits

What it is:

A brightening serum of time-tested Asian botanicals such as Jujube and Licorice Root extracts, and our anti-aging HADASEI-3™ Complex.

Why it's different:

Uses skin-safe ingredients to visibly improve hyperpigmentation, dark spots and uneven skin tone without whitening skin, resulting in a naturally bright radiance.

Who it's for:

Ideal for all skin types. Non-irritating. Non-sensitizing. Dermatologist tested.

Effectiveness

Tatcha Radiant Deep Brightening Serum brightens skin very effectively even after a week or two of using the product. You will see brightened and well-rested skin upon wake-up, which is pretty impressive for its fast delivery of results.

Having said that, here comes the paradox. My skin tone has been brightened but my sun spots don't seem to be getting lightened honestly. Rather, my sun spots have gotten more pronounced as the result of my overall brightened skin tone O_O. Well, Tatcha Radiant Deep Brightening Serum certainly didn't increase the number of sun spots or even darken them as I've been using it in boiling hot weather here hitting 32 degrees Celsius outside O_O. It does seem to prevent sun spots and brighten the overall complexion, but not very effectively on the existing sun spots or any discolouration including pimple marks etc.

Application Tips

Dehydration / Dryness

If you have a dehydrated / dry skin type, you will need an extra hydrating serum or moisturiser on the top as I wouldn't say that Tatcha Radiant Deep Brightening Serum deeply hydrates skin. Well, I have been layering Guerlain Super Aqua Serum (full review) or Jurlique Rose Hydrating Serum [(full review)()] over Tatcha Radiant Deep Brightening Serum during the daytime as my skin gets dehydrated throughout the day even in summer. And I just used Chanel La Nuit de Chanel (full review) after putting on the brightening serum. If you look for more hydrating brightening serum, I recommend you try out Chanel Le Blanc Serum (full review) or La Prairie Cellular White Triple Action Concentrate (full review) as they provide long lasting hydration.

Incorporating Anti-Aging Skin care

As you might have guessed, Tatcha Radiant Deep Brightening Serum doesn't soften wrinkles so the product can be a bit tricky to use if you need to use anti-wrinkle or firming products due to your skin condition. In that case, you will need to use brightening skin care during the day time and follow your normal anti-wrinkle regime at night. It isn't recommend to use them together at once, as they won't be as effective as used separately because of the conflict of ingredients that they have. So be patient, and try not to overkill :).

Try to put on sunscreen more religiously when you are on a brightening skin care regime, which will prevent the reverse effect and any sensitising issues from sun exposure.

Verdict

I have been enjoying Tatcha Radiant Deep Brightening Serum when I know when my skin tends to get dull on that time of the month. It brings life back to my skin upon waking up in the morning, and I get less stressed about dullness and all that shadow that I get monthly XD. Even better, it didn't break my skin out and I can even imagine that people with oily skin could use it just by itself in summer. There are certain limits that Tatcha Radiant Deep Brightening Serum couldn't overcome, but it's overall quite result-oriented. It's just shame that it didn't work effectively on existing sun spots or even the recent pimple marks though :(.
